How overtime pay is calculated
Overtime pay = hourly rate × overtime multiplier × overtime hours. At $20.00 an hour, time and a half is $30.00 an hour. Five overtime hours pay $150.00, so a 45 hour week pays $800.00 + $150.00 = $950.00.
Who gets overtime?
The federal Fair Labor Standards Act requires overtime of at least 1.5 times the regular rate for non-exempt employees after 40 hours in a workweek. Some states add daily overtime rules or double time. Salaried exempt employees usually do not get overtime. Check your state labor department for the rules that apply to you.
